Hearing Words is a reading aid, not a medical device. It does not test, treat or diagnose hearing, and it does not replace a hearing aid, a doctor, or a trained human captioner.

The words on screen may contain mistakes. The app can mishear a word, miss a word, or show a name next to the wrong person, especially in a noisy room or when people talk at once. Do not rely on it alone for anything where a mistake could cause harm, such as medical instructions, medicine doses, legal matters, money, or emergencies. When it matters, ask the person to repeat it or write it down.

Your licence to use the app

Hearing Words is licensed to you under Apple's standard licence for apps from the App Store: the Licensed Application End User License Agreement. That agreement is the legal contract between you and us. This page explains how our plans work, in plain words, and does not take away any rights that agreement or the law gives you.

The free hour

Your first hour of live captions is free. It is not a free trial of a subscription: nothing is charged, and nothing renews, unless you choose a plan yourself. When the free hour is used up, the conversation on screen carries on until you tap Stop. After that, Start asks you to choose a plan. Your saved conversations and Settings keep working either way.

Hearing Words Yearly (subscription)

Price: $9.99 (US) a year, or the price the App Store shows for your country, including any tax.
Length: one year from the day you buy it.
Payment: charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.
Automatic renewal: the plan renews each year and your Apple ID is charged again, within the 24 hours before the year ends, unless you turn off renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the year.
How to cancel: open your iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Hearing Words, then Cancel Subscription. You can also tap the gear in the app, then Manage subscription. After you cancel, the app keeps working until the end of the year you paid for.
Price changes: if the price ever goes up, Apple tells you first, and in most cases asks you to agree before you are charged the new price.

Hearing Words Forever (one-time purchase)

Price: $34.99 (US), or the price the App Store shows for your country, including any tax.
Payment: charged once to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. There is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.
What you get: the app, unlocked, with no time limit, on every iPhone signed in to your Apple ID.

For both plans

Family Sharing: both plans can be shared with the people in your Family Sharing group.
How to buy: in the app, tap the gear, then Unlock Hearing Words.
Restore: if the app ever asks you to pay again, tap the gear, then Restore purchase.
Refunds: Apple takes the payment and handles refunds, at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Your phone: Hearing Words needs iOS 18 or newer. Please try the free hour on your own phone before you buy, to be sure it works well for you.
